DaVinci Deluxe vs KESS V2/V3 -- 2026 Comparison
Updated June 2026. Honest pros and cons. Written by working tuners.
If you already own KESS, KTAG, MPPS or any read tool, DaVinci Deluxe replaces the proprietary tuning software at a fraction of the cost. KESS V3 hardware itself (~2000 EUR plus annual subscriptions) keeps reading ECUs; DaVinci processes the dumps and applies the tunes. Most workshops use both.
Side-by-side comparison
| Feature | DaVinci Deluxe | KESS V2 / V3 |
|---|---|---|
| Type | Software (PC) | Hardware + software |
| Initial cost (entry tier) | 299 EUR (Standard Lifetime) | ~2000-2500 EUR (KESS V3 with basic protocols) |
| Initial cost (pro tier) | 499 EUR (Pro Lifetime, 5 PCs) | ~3500-5000 EUR (V3 + master protocols) |
| Annual subscriptions | None on lifetime tiers | Per-protocol packs typically 300-1200 EUR/year |
| Updates | Free for life on lifetime tiers | Tied to active subscription / credits |
| OBD / bench reading hardware | Not included -- use what you have (KESS, KTAG, MPPS, Auterra, bench) | Included (this is the main value of KESS) |
| Supported ECUs (file processing) | 1033 entries / 17 brands (Bosch, Continental, Delphi, Siemens, Magneti Marelli) | Hardware coverage is broader for reading; tuning coverage similar on common platforms |
| Cloud-based Stage 1 / Stage 2 | Yes (Online ECU Tuning included with Pro / Monthly / Yearly) | No native cloud service |
| Delete services (DPF / EGR / AdBlue / DTC) | Yes -- full module suite | Possible with Alientech KESSv3 + protocol pack |
| Map editing | Yes -- desktop map editor for fuel / torque / boost | Requires separate Alientech Modyfile or 3rd-party (WinOLS) |
| Hardware logistics / replacement | No hardware to ship / lose / brick | Physical device -- subject to damage, customs, RMAs |
| Customer support | Email, WhatsApp, in-app tickets, 4.9/5 Trustpilot | Distributor-dependent |
| Risk if hardware bans | None (no hardware to ban) | KESS V3 firmware has been bricked in audits |
When KESS is the better choice
- You have no current tool to physically read ECUs via OBD or bench -- KESS hardware is excellent.
- You need cutting-edge bench protocols for very new ECUs that newer KESS V3 firmware covers first.
- You are part of an Alientech dealer network with credit / training.
When DaVinci Deluxe is the better choice
- You already own a read tool (KESS / KTAG / MPPS / Auterra) and just need software to process files.
- You want predictable lifetime cost without annual subscription cycles.
- You need cloud-based Stage 1 / Stage 2 / Combo without separate hardware investment.
- You run a multi-PC workshop (up to 10 PCs on Yearly Unlimited).
- You prefer software you can install in minutes (no hardware shipping, no firmware bricks).
Most workshops use both
The realistic stack we see in customer workshops: read the ECU with KESS or KTAG, process the file with DaVinci Deluxe (delete services + map editing), use DaVinci Cloud Tuning for Stage 1/2 when needed. The two are complementary, not exclusive.

Is DaVinci Deluxe cheaper than KESS V3?
Yes. DaVinci Deluxe lifetime starts at 299 EUR (Standard) or 499 EUR (Pro, 5 PCs). KESS V3 hardware retails around 2000-2500 EUR plus annual protocol subscriptions. DaVinci has no hardware to buy and updates are included for life on lifetime tiers.
Does DaVinci Deluxe support the same ECUs as KESS V3?
DaVinci Deluxe supports 1033 ECU entries across 17 brands. KESS V3 covers more bench protocols since it is hardware-based; DaVinci works on already-read dumps so coverage depends on file source rather than physical OBD/bench protocols.
Do I need a dongle / hardware to use DaVinci Deluxe?
No. DaVinci Deluxe is pure software -- you read the ECU with any tool you already own and process the file in DaVinci. There is no proprietary dongle, no annual hardware renewal, no shipping.
What about ongoing costs?
DaVinci Lifetime tiers include all future updates with no recurring fees. KESS typically charges per-protocol annual subscriptions plus hardware credits. For active workshops the multi-year cost difference is several thousand EUR.
Can I use both DaVinci Deluxe and KESS?
Absolutely. Many workshops use KESS for OBD/bench file reading and DaVinci Deluxe for the actual tuning. The combo is common.
